Home Frances Plowden

On graduating from Brighton Polytechnic’s 3-Dimensional Design degree course, and after a years apprenticeship with a London-based blacksmith, I set up a metal workshop in Dalston, London, with the help of a Princes Youth Business Trust set-up grant, and a prize awarded by the Livewire Young Business Competition.

Later I spent three years living and working in Barcelona with the help of a scholarship from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, before returning to work in London in 1994.

With over 20 years experience working as a self employed blacksmith, furniture designer and welder, as well as a 7 year stint as a set builder and prop maker for a European pyro-acrobatic circus group, my metal work reflects the diversity of projects and commissions I have worked on.

In 2014 I have exhibited work at the:

Whitecross Street Party-The Rise of the Non Conformists

Brixton Design Week-Brixton Pound party

Artcore 14 at the Hotel Elephant.

I run a workshop in Brixton from where I produce imaginative metal work to commission and for sale.
